Is FanDuel Sportsbook live in Kentucky?

Yes, FanDuel Sportsbook is live in Kentucky. In-person sports betting in KY launched on September 7, 2023, and online wagering began three weeks later on September 28. FanDuel has a retail location at Churchill Downs, and the online platform is already live and ready for use.

Different kinds of wagers on FanDuel Sportsbook

FanDuel Sportsbook offers some of the most varied betting types among Kentucky sports betting operators. Here are some of the most common types you’re able to play.

  • Totals betting: Also known as “Over/Under,” a totals bet is a wager on the combined number of points scored between two teams in a given contest.
  • Spread betting: Betting on the spread involves a wager on the margin of victory. Betting on the favorite requires that team to win by a predetermined point differential (such as winning by four or more points) while a bet on the underdog can still pay out even if that team loses (for example, if the underdog is +4.5 on the spread and they lose by three points, the underdog would cover and the bet would win).
  • Same-game parlays: FanDuel is one of the industry leaders for same-game parlays, offering a massive array of markets and customizability. Parlays combine multiple betting outcomes into one single wager with odds multiplied for each leg, so same-game parlays combine those outcomes from within one contest.
  • Props: Oftentimes part of a same-game parlay, prop bets involve bets on statistical milestones or other wagers which may not directly impact a game’s outcome. For example, the number of shots on goal a hockey team puts up, a certain player scoring a goal in soccer, or an NBA star's combined points, assists, and rebounds would all be considered prop bets.

Best sports you will be able to bet on using FanDuel Kentucky

FanDuel Kentucky Sports

FanDuel offers 16 sports on its wagering platforms (often with multiple leagues in those categories) while also having a separate listing for horse races; both the sportsbook and racebook are available for Kentucky bettors. Here are some of the top options you’ll find.

  • College basketball: Wildcats? Cardinals? Hilltoppers? Take your pick! College basketball is the most-viewed sport in Kentucky, and bettors will be allowed to place wagers on Division I college sports, including on in-state teams.
  • Football: NFL betting is the top dog for American sports betting, but college football isn’t far behind. There aren’t any NFL teams in Kentucky, but with six FBS and FCS schools in-state, football betting will still be a competitive and popular option at FanDuel.
  • Baseball: Like with the NFL, there aren’t any MLB teams in Kentucky, though the Louisville Bats are the AAA affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. Other minor league clubs like the Bowling Green Hot Rods, Florence Y’alls, and Lexington Counter Clocks have helped keep the sport popular among Kentuckians.
  • Horse racing: Few states have the same storied horse racing history as Kentucky, and with FanDuel offering a retail location at Churchill Downs, we have no doubt horse racing will see the biggest handle among all Kentucky sports markets.

The rules and laws for daily fantasy sports at FanDuel Kentucky

Daily fantasy sports (DFS) contests require skill to be successful, and the “skill vs. luck” debate has caused a bit of a legal gray area in several states. Though Kentucky did not have a bill to approve DFS contests, they also were not outright prohibited.

Following the state’s passage of legal sports betting in March 2023, participation in Kentucky DFS contests was fully legalized. You don't need to place bets on the sportsbook to participate in DFS contests, nor do DFS entries prohibit you from placing sports bets.

The FanDuel mobile betting app in Kentucky

FanDuel has one of the top sports betting apps across the country, carrying a 4.7/5 rating in the Google Play Store and a 4.8/5 rating in the iOS App Store. This high score speaks volumes about the reliability and performance of the app across devices as the high-pressure nature of sports betting can lead to impulsive reviews that skew toward the negative.

FanDuel’s app is very intuitive and user-friendly, so whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned betting vet, you’ll master the layout and navigation in no time. The design is also aesthetically pleasing, and we particularly appreciate the dark mode display setting. Additionally, FanDuel has made it a point to optimize its platforms in the app and in the browser for mobile users, as a majority of online sports betting in the U.S. is made through a betting app.

Is college sports betting available on FanDuel Sportsbook in Kentucky?

Yes, college sports betting is available on FanDuel Sportsbook in Kentucky. When state legislators were discussing the merits of including betting on collegiate athletics in a sports gambling bill, one important sticking point was the likelihood of Kentuckians placing wagers to back their local NCAA Division I program.

College basketball is the most-watched sport in Kentucky, especially the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville, so having the state law permit betting on college sports was the correct call to make.

Can I bet on KY college sports?

Yes, it will be possible to bet on KY college sports with FanDuel Sportsbook. The decision on whether to allow betting on in-state college teams was one of the most contentious debates in the legislature.

With the popularity of the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville, especially for college basketball, it made more sense to allow betting on in-state teams to allow Kentuckians a local betting angle.
