Ohio Valley Conference Regular Season Championship Odds Breakdown

Morehead State Eagles

Kentucky’s own Morehead State boasts the top defensive team in the conference and heads up the OVC Championship odds at BetMGM.

The Eagles are 4-1 in OVC play, and its 13-5 mark is the best overall win/loss record in the conference. Morehead State suffered its first-season conference loss Sunday at SIU Edwardsville.

Senior guard Riley Minex is the Eagles’ best player and likely the best player in the OVC. Guard Jordan Lathan is also a key contributor for a Morehead State program ranked second in offensive efficiency. They currently sit one game behind Western Illinois for the conference lead.

The Eagles are one of the worst three-point shooting teams in the conference, but they hit clean the glass effectively on both ends of the floor with the third-best turnover percentage in the OVC.

The Rest of the BetMGM OVC Leaderboard

Western Illinois sits atop of the OVC with a perfect 5-0 record. They boast the fifth-best offense but second-best defense and lead the conference rebounding. Their conference-best 15.6 offensive caroms and 6.4 blocks per game are why the Leathernecks are 5-0 in the OVC. They have the worst turnover percentage in the conference, with the eleventh-best free throw percentage.

SIU Edwardsville is riding a two-game winning streak and spoiled Morehead State’s perfect conference record. They held the Eagles to 48 away points this past Saturday, but Edwardsville has a weak bench and terrible shooters from inside and outside the arc. The Cougars play lights-out three-point defense but are weak on the offensive glass.

UT Martin holds the fourth-most public interest, and they have a pair of guards who can light it up from anywhere. Jordan Sears and Jacob Crews each average 18+ for a Skyhawks offense averaging 82.4 points per game. The problem is the Skyhawks are a bad offensive rebounding team and don’t get many blocked shots or steals, making it difficult to stop any offense.

Finally, the 3-2 Little Rock Trojans are the highest-scoring team in the OVC. The Trojans run and gun with the best of them, which is good. They also allow a conference-worst 80.8 points per tilt, which isn’t so good. They play a fast tempo and make the third-highest percentage of triples in the conference and the worst defensive team in the Ohio Valley Conference, but if they get hot, they can beat anyone.
